I was only in KL for one night so i had to get all of my shopping out of the way in the most efficient way possible, to get this done i decided to go to pavilion in bukit bintang to do my shopping, pavilion is a hugely impressive shopping center with 6 floors and over (check) stores.

After a couple of hours shopping i was starting to get hungry and if you are hungry in pavilion (or anywhere in Malaysia for that matter) you are pretty much spoilt for choice. Nearly every major cuisine is represented at least somewhere. On my last day in Perth i had some really bad Japanese food so i wanted to remind myself what good Japanese food is all about.

This is where watami restaurant comes in, I had a quick glance on the menu as i walked past and there were a few items on the menu that i wanted to try so i decided to give it a go. The extremely friendly staff lead me to a table, I found that the restaurant had a really nice and warm vibe to it.

So i placed my order and my drinks arrived. I noticed that i used a plural when i said drinks because there was a slight issue with my order. I had originally gone for the lime and lemonade in one of watamis “giant mugs”, what had arrived were two 400ml tumblers filled with the aforementioned beverage. When i asked what had happened they said they were out of the fancy mugs so they gave me two tumblers instead. It was a lot of liquid!

Then after a short period of time thinking about Malaysia the first of my dishes arrived. This is something that i absolutely love so as soon as i saw it on the menu i knew that i had to order them. What i am talking about is shishamo, These are small freshwater fish that are served whole and stuffed with roe. This particular rendition was battered and then deep fried. I liked how they were super crispy however i found they could use a little sauce or some salt.

My second dish arrived and it was the sushi moriawase which is a selection of what fish the chef thinks is fresh each day. Overall i liked this but i found that the sushi was served far too cold and due to this there wasn’t a huge amount of flavour. While i was eating this i looked around and i got a pretty bad case of food envy. Everyone else’s dishes looked really good! There were all sorts of yummy rice dishes so my plate of raw seafood didn’t seem completely enticing.

I did enjoy my meal at Watami restaurant however i feel that it would have been nicer if i had ordered something different. Hats have to go off to the service staff though, they were really friendly!
