On a Thursday A and I were talking about different places that we have been to and places that we would like to go to. A mentioned to me that there is one place that she would like to go to that she has always had nice meals at. That place is called The Bonsai and is a place that serves share plates of Japanese food. I thought that this sounded like a great idea. When we were on the way to Bonsai I quickly looked up what the rating was on urbanspoon, this particular restaurant has an 87% ranking so I was thinking it has to be pretty good. Read more →
Restoran Dragon View, Kuala Lumpur Malaysia
The first time i went to KL back in 2009 i found this amazing place for wantan noodles. Unfortunately i found it on the last morning before I was heading back to Australia. I remember thinking to myself if I ever was to go to KL again that i would go back to the same wantan mee place. My recent trip has provided me with the ability to fulfill this thought. I remembered the exact location of the particular restaurant so I set out at about 8am in search of the restaurant and it’s still there! Read more →
Bistro Guillaume, Burswood
It was A and my one year anniversary the other day. As people who go out to restaurants and talk about food fairly often we had to choose a place that was special to celebrate this occasion. A mentioned to me that we should go to Bistro Guillaume because she has heard me talk about everything I love about French food for a long time. Read more →
Calanthe Art Café, Melaka
In tourist driven jonker street on weeknights there aren’t a huge amount of options for dinner available. I suppose that most malaysian people have dinner in central melaka and it’s just the tourists that stick to jonker street. So after dinner last night I was going for an evening stroll around and I walked past a nondescript little shack that had a little sign proclaiming that they have amazing laksa and i made a mental note to return the next night for dinner. Sayers cafe, leederville
A has been talking about going to Sayers coffee for a little while. When she mentioned to me that she wanted to go I decided to do a little bit of research and it seems like Sayers is a little bit of institution with many of my favourite bloggers loving this particular restaurant. I took a few hours off on a Friday and we tried out the breakfast offerings here. Read more →
Chow Kit Hawker centre, Malaysia
When I was planning my most recent trip to Malaysia I knew that I wanted to do one thing and that was to go to one of the traditional wet markets of Malaysia. These wet markets are a fantastic insight into how a lot of people live their day to day lives in Malaysia, interestingly the term ‘wet market’ comes from the fact that they use water to wash the floors and keep all the meat and fish fresh. The closest wet markets to my hotel in Kuala Lumpur were at Chow Kit which was only 3 stops away on the efficient monorail. I headed out their early one morning in anticipation. Read more →
Orfa Kebabs, Bunbury
When A and I were planning our getaway to Busselton there was one place that I knew I would have to go to. Many years ago i went to Bunbury for a holiday, after having a few beers down the road I stumbled upon a kebab place. I still think about how amazing those kebabs were that day. When the trip with A was being planned in my head one of the first things I said to her was “you know those kebabs that I keep talking about, we definitely have to stop in for one”. Then in the back of head I had this doubt in my mind, I was wondering if the kebabs would be good or if my initial love was assisted by alcohol? Read more →
Amarin Thai, Subiaco
It was mine and A’s 11 month anniversary. This was something that I was over the moon about as A makes me extremely happy. Something that we have started doing recently is that every month we will take each other out for dinner to somewhere that is a surprise. It was my turn and I spent a long time looking on urbanspoon for the perfect place to take A. That is when Amarin Thai popped into my mind. Read more →
Forest Cafe, Kalamunda
My mum and I during the week had decided to plan a little shopping day out on Saturday. We were going to go to midland for a few things and then go into Kalamunda and have a little walk around. I have to admit that every time I go to Kalamunda I am surprised by how serene it is. It really is the sort of place that is locked in a time warp (in a nice way of course).
When we got to Kalamunda it was nearly lunchtime, so after a little bit of walking around we decided to find somewhere to have lunch. There were a few options but we weren’t sure if they were any good, so I asked my friend Chantal for reccomendations and she suggested a place called forest cafe which is on Haynes street. It was quite easy to spot so we decided to give it a go. Read more →
Merrywell, Crown Casino
A turned to me on a Monday after I got home from work and said to me “How about I pick you up after work take you out for a surprise dinner on Wednesday night?” I love supposes and thought that this was a fantastic idea!
So I was picked up by A and we headed to this mystery location. I was making guesses along the way depending on what street we were on at the time. When I saw A get off the freeway at the Belmont park on ramp to head towards crown casino I knew exactly where we were headed to. The Merrywell would be an interesting place to try as its part of massive redevelopment and re branding that the Burswood has recently gone under. Read more →
