My first night in Singapore we decided to hit the ground running and head out at night for shopping and some delicious food. This was a Friday night and we jumped on the incredibly efficient MRT system and after about 10 minutes we were in the middle of bustling orchard rd. This was an assault on my senses, everywhere I looked there were either neon signs, people shopping or people eating. We were pretty hungry at this stage so we headed into one of the malls to grab something for dinner. One thing about Singapore is that they love to eat, so most of the places that we wanted to go there were considerable queues to get in. On my second last day in singapore I spent the day wandering along orchard road and doing some shopping. My day started with breakfast at KFC as i saw the other day that they had congee on the menu and i decided to give it a try. To be honest it was pretty disappointing, when you get a really good bowl of congee it should feel really nourishing and should warm you up. This particular congee was thick and incredibly bland. When i was researching the Singapore leg of my trip I knew that I wanted to have quite a few meals at hawker centres in the city however with so much choice I wasn’t sure where was the best. After looking around some various blogs I found that the old airport road hawker centre is consistently in the top hawker centres of Singapore. Before i get to the breakfast part of this review i have a little story to tell. The night before i was using the hotel wifi to look around and find a place to have breakfast the following morning. On google maps i saw that there is a jetty that is a bit like canary wharf where there are restaurants, bars and different things like that. That sounded fantastic so in my head i thought “This will be great, I will go for a little walk, have a great breakfast on the jetty looking over the straits of melaka and it will be a beautiful thing.” Read more →

This is actually the second time that I have been to this particular place in a week. The first time that I went here was a few days before this time. I found myself in east Perth and didn’t have too long to go before I had to make my way back to work.
