Famosa Chicken rice, Melaka

Nov 18

Even before i had bought my hotel tickets to melaka i investigated what foods are famous from there. One of the most famous choices are chicken rice balls, I wasn’t sure what these were so i did a little bit of research on what chicken rice balls exactly are. Well it turns out that the only difference between standard malaysian/singaporean chicken rice and melaka chicken rice balls is that the balls are formed into the shape of balls rather than being a normal plate of rice. Izyan, Spencer village

Oct 07

At work the other day i was thinking of what i would like to do on the weekend, the thought of going to spencer village popped into my head mainly because i haven’t been there in a while. So on a very wonderful sunday i made my way to Thornlie again. While I was on the way there I was thinking that every time i go to Spencer Village I am by myself, I suppose it has something to do with most of my friends being scared of the cleanliness etc. of Spencer Village. I think that this is all perception as when I go there I don’t often see anything dirty at all.

Choosing a stall was fairly hard this time as I didn’t really know what I wanted so i lapped around the food court a couple of times. Eventually my eyes were drawn to the golden brown glow of some deep fried chicken wings and i knew that I would be having something from izyan. I place my order and sit down, relax and wait for my delicious food to arrive.

The first thing that arrived was my plate of nasi lemak, as soon as i smelt that wondefully fragrant coconut rice i knew i was in for a great meal. I tried a little bit of the ikan bilis first and I wasn’t a huge fan, rather than being light and crispy these were thick and chewy. Next up i found the omelette just average and the same could be said about the chicken wing. I really liked the chilli sambal that accompanied this meal. As I was enjoying my meal I noticed that my nasi lemak rice was green…
Why was my rice green? When i got home i had a little look around google regarding this green nasi lemak rice and it turns out that the green rice comes from adding pandan oil or pandan leaves to the rice as it’s cooking.
I didn’t mind my nasi lemak from izyan, but other places in spencer village do better nasi lemak.

The second thing that i ordered was roti prata with a chicken curry. The last time I had roti prata was when i was in malaysia so it will be interesting to compare the two. My first impressions are that his roti is more of a ‘roti lite’ as i dont think as much margarine/ghee are used in the cooking process, its not as crispy and flaky as in malaysia. The second thing is that I really liked the curry, there was a lot of flavour and it went really well with the bread.

I didn’t mind my meal at izyan but i didn’t love it. There are a lot more places that i haven’t tried yet at spencer village and i would like to give those a try before i return to Izyan.

Lamonts wine store, Cottesloe

Apr 04

On Thursday it was my birthday. My mum and I had planned a little day out on the Friday where we would go shopping and do a little bit of lunch. We went to garden city and got the shopping out of the way, while we were shopping we discussed where to go for lunch. I mentioned that i just wanted something small and light as i was still not feeling the greatest after last nights dinner. My mum mentioned that there is a new branch that has opened up in cottesloe, we made our way there. Read more →

Inglewood hotel, Inglewood

Mar 21

For a belated birthday catch up I had decided to catch up with my good friends Sarah and Caleb. When it came time to decide where to go we knew that Caleb enjoyed a good pub meal so I started looking through urbanspoon for places to go to. I ended up deciding on the Inglewood hotel because it was in quite a handy location for us and also that their steak sandwich is meant to be quite highly revered. Read more →

A few weeks ago i received a message on twitter from fellow food blogger foodie cravings, her and her husband have recently opened the latest Crust Pizza franchise in Mount Lawley. The message mentioned that they were rolling out a new menu and wanted to invite a few food bloggers to the restaurant to try out a few of the pizzas. I have to say that i didn’t hesitate at all in accepting the invite! I was looking forward to an afternoon of yummy food, delicious drinks and conversation about food. Read more →

Captain Stirling, Nedlands

Feb 22

I was arranging catching up with my friend S for dinner. It had been a while since we caught up and she let me choose where we were going to go to eat. I actually had quite a hard time choosing where to go for dinner, I knew that S wanted to go somewhere that has the familiarity of suburbs pub dining but at a inner city location. After thinking for a few hours about this i finally decided on the Captain Stirling! Read more →

Nespresso Launch Event

Dec 21

The other day I received an email inviting me to the opening of the first nespresso store in Perth. I have to admit that I was quite excited to receive this invitation for two reasons, one was that it was my first event I have been invited to since I started blogging and the second is that I am actually a big fan of nespresso coffee and I normally start my day with one. Noodle inn, West Perth

Nov 09

This is a place that I have been wanting to blog about for a long time. I first went here a few years ago when I worked in west Perth and I instantly loved the fact that this place is well hidden and quite a relaxing spot in the middle of a business district.

A few weeks ago I got an email from one of my work colleagues and the email basically said “I have to get out of the office, would you like to have lunch”. I was particularly craving some Malaysian food so I suggested going to noodle inn. Read more →

Punjab, Stirling

Sep 28

This is another place that was recommended to me as a place to do a review on. So much like my pizzaca review this is another place that is hidden in a row of shops. Honestly if I wasn’t going with some experts I would have no idea that this place was there. Read more →
